空港の新セキュリティ・システム
金属探知機に続く新しいセキュリティ・システムがアメリカの空港にお目見えしそうです。そのシステムでは，X線で搭乗者をスキャンすることで，服の内側まで透かして見ることができるとか。
実はこのシステム，物体の探知技術に関しては数年前から開発済みだったのですが，実用上の障害となったのが，プライバシー侵害という問題。だって，中まで見えちゃうわけですから(;^_^A 。
問題を解決すべく，いくつかの対策がとられました。
『The Transportation Security Administration said it has found a way to refine the machine's images so that the normally graphic pictures can be blurred in certain areas while still being effective in detecting bombs and other threats.』

危険物を探知する能力を保ちながら，特定の部分を自動的に“ボカス”ことが可能だとか。
さらに，
『The X-rays will be set up so that the image can be viewed only by a security officer in a remote location. Other passengers, and even the agent at the checkpoint, will not have access to the picture. In addition, the system will be configured so that the X-ray will be deleted as soon as the individual steps away from the machine. It will not be stored or available for printing or transmitting.』

画像をチェックする人は厳しく制限され，チェックが済めばすぐに画像は破棄されるとか。
ニュース記事のページでは，実際のスキャン画像を見ることができますよ。確かにプライバシー上のポイントとなるところは細部まで見えなくなっています。
まずは一部の空港で，二次検査用に試用されるようです。男の私としては，安全になるのなら本格採用して欲しいですが，女性の方にとっては，このレベルの画像でもやっぱり抵抗あるのかもしれませんね。
