日本人と血液型
ワタシたち日本人にとって、血液型による性格診断ってとても身近なものですよね。日常会話で頻繁に登場するこの話題ですが、実はこれ、日本特有のもの。
最近、私が通う英会話クラスでもこの話題になったのですが、外国人にとっては非常に違和感のあるものだそうです。
ということで、そんな日本のヘンな常識が海外に報道されています。
日本では最近、血液型に関する本が人気なワケですが・・・
『As defined by the books, type As are sensitive perfectionists but overanxious; Type Bs are cheerful but eccentric and selfish; Os are curious, generous but stubborn; and ABs are arty but mysterious and unpredictable.』
日本人にとったら疑いのようのない事実ですが、英語では上記のように説明すればパーフェクトですね。英会話での雑談ネタにも最適。(￣▼￣*)ﾆﾔｯ
記事ではこんな冷やかしも。(⌒_⌒; タラタラ

【英語表現チェック】seem to～：「～しているようだ」
これは完全にバカにされています。WEBにそんなこと書いてるってホントでしょうか？ 事実なら同じ日本人としてやめていただきたい。(σ｀д´)σ
とはいえここまでは、まだ笑える話。記事ではさらに、これにより生じている問題に触れています。
『Matchmaking agencies provide blood-type compatibility tests, and some companies make decisions about assignments based on employees' blood types.』
【英語表現チェック】matchmaking：「結婚の仲介」、matchmaking agenciesで「結婚仲介業者」といったところでしょうか。
【英単語チェック】assignments：「配属」
前半はまあ良いとして、後半の部分はあり得ない話ですね。いまだにそんなことをやっている企業があるのでしょうか。
さらに・・・
「Children at some kindergartens are divided up by blood type, and the women's softball team that won gold at the Beijing Olympics used the theory to customize each player's training.」
この前半の話もスゴイ。後半はちょっとトリビアですね。（ワタシは知りませんでした）
上記企業の対応については、厚生労働省も問題視しているようです。
"It's so widespread that most people, even company officials, are not aware that asking blood types could lead to discrimination,"

う～ん、いまだにそんなレベルというのはちょっと信じ難いような。（´ヘ｀；）とほほ・・
専門家（日本人）は次のようにコメントしています。
"It's simply sham science, The idea encourages people to judge others by the blood types, without trying to understand them as human beings. It's like racism."
【英語表現チェック】encourage A to B：「AがBするのを促進する」
確かにそうですが、ちょっと極端なような・・・。
最後に紹介されているのがその由来。その発端はとんでもないものだそうです。
『The theory was imported from Nazi race ideologues and adopted by Japan's militarist government in the 1930s to breed better soldiers.』
これって有名な話なんですかね？だとしたら、なんだか怖いですね。
